W.J. Amoss Jr. Elected Chairman Of CASO
W.J. Amoss Jr., president and chief executive officer of Lykes Bros. Steamship Co., Inc., has been elected chairman of the Council of American-Flag Ship Operators (CASO).
Mr. Amoss succeeds W. Bruce Seaton of American President Lines, Ltd., as chairman.
Mr. Amoss, president of Lykes since 1973, joined the company in 1947 following naval service in World War II and graduation from Tulane University. In 1950 he was recalled to naval duty in the Korean War.
He returned to Lykes in 1952, and from 1953 to 1963 served in various executive posts in Europe. He was recalled to New Orleans in 1963 as vice presidenttraffic, and in 1971 was named executive vice president and elected to the board of directors. He was named president in 1973 and chief executive officer in 1982.
Mr. Amoss is a past chairman of the National Maritime Council and the New Orleans Steamship Association. In 1980 he was awarded by President Reagan the American Legion's Merchant Marine Achievement Award.
